Luecker, Katherine Zuleme 55 Dec. 12, 1959 Jan. 27, 2015 Kathie was a resident of Oakland, Calif., and formerly of Portland. Kathie Luecker passed away peacefully at home in California with family and friends by her side after a yearlong battle with ovarian cancer. She was 55 years of age. Kathie was born in Oakland and grew up in Orinda, Calif., and attended Miramonte High School (1978). After high school, Kathie attended Oregon State University (1983), where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. A competitive swimmer in her youth, Kathie went on to work and become part owner in the family swimming pool business, Lincoln Aquatics, which has grown to be a national supplier. Kathie spent 18 years of her career (1983 to 2000) in sales for Lincoln Aquatics, covering the Pacific Northwest territory. Her strong work ethic and ability to effortlessly build relationships with both employees and customers was remarkable. A gracious and hospitable hostess, Kathie frequently entertained family and friends in her beautiful Northeast Portland home. She was a friend to everyone she met and loved to guide friends and family to local restaurants, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing and other various activities in Oregon. In 2007, Kathie moved to Oakland where she purchased a lovely home in the Oakland Hills. It was a highlight for Kathie to entertain friends on her deck overlooking the San Francisco Bay. She also loved to travel and experience the local culture on her adventures. Her quick wit and fun sense of humor brought much laughter to those in her life as did her true heartfelt desire to share her life with others. Kathie's love for experiencing life and creating treasured memories is a legacy imprinted on all the hearts of those who were blessed by her friendship. Kathie was preceded in death by her parents, William Luecker and Mary Jane Luecker of Orinda. Kathie is survived by her brother, Charles Luecker of Moraga, Calif., and his wife, Laurie Luecker; nephews, Geoffrey Luecker (Stephani) of Napa, Calif., Michael Luecker of Moraga, Jason (Kayla) Luecker of Prineville and Brandon Luecker of Moraga; and comforting Collie, Chance. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2015, at The World Forestry Center, Miller Hall, 4033 S.W. Canyon Road, Portland, OR 97221.
